About IWM

Founded on the workshop floor.
Built on fifty years of it.

International Woodworking Machinery Ltd has been specifying new and used machinery for British timber, joinery and bespoke workshops since 1975. We are not a catalogue business. We are a consulting business that happens to sell machines.

The Team

The people behind
every specification.

Small enough that you speak to the same person every time. Experienced enough that it matters.

Over fifty years in the woodworking machinery industry. Former Managing Director of Wadkin, SCM, and the Homag Group in the UK and overseas. The depth of technical knowledge and industry relationship Ian brings to every enquiry is the single most important competitive advantage IWM has.

Our technical sales lead at the Newark showroom. Henry handles specification enquiries, machine demonstrations, and customer visits — and will spend as long as it takes ensuring you understand the trade-offs before any order is placed. Customers consistently note his patience and product knowledge in their reviews.

Why IW Machines

We listen before we recommend

Specifying machinery is a once-in-a-decade decision. We treat it like one.

01

Consultative, not commission-driven.

We will recommend the smaller machine if it's the right one. We will tell you to wait. The relationship matters more than the order — and every customer who comes back confirms that.

02

Tailored to your production.

Generic advice is the most expensive kind. We take the time to understand your throughput, your floor space, your team's skill level, and your actual capital timeline before we put a machine in front of you.

03

UK-wide delivery and commissioning.

Our engineers install, calibrate, and train your team on-site. Anywhere in the UK, typically within four weeks of order confirmation. We do not consider the job done at the point of delivery.

04

Direct manufacturer relationships.

Official UK partner for Soukup. Trusted by Falach, Copenstick, and others. Real lead times, real parts inventory, real support — not the kind that routes through a European headquarters when something goes wrong.

Our History

Our History

IWM's story begins long before the company was incorporated. The expertise that underpins every recommendation we make was accumulated across decades of operating at the highest level of the British and international woodworking machinery industry.

Since founding IWM in 1975, Ian has built a business that reflects what he believed was missing from the market: an independent supplier with genuine technical depth, no loyalty to a single manufacturer, and a willingness to tell customers the truth — including when the truth is that they should buy something smaller, or used, or wait.

A simple process

A specification process built for capital decisions.

No hard sell. No commission targets. A consultative process refined over five decades of British woodworking.

01

Tell us what you're
trying to make.

A 30-minute call with a specialist. We ask about your throughput, your floor, your team and your timeline - not your budget.

02

Get a shortlist,
with reasoning.

Three to five machines, ranked. We explain the trade-offs - capacity, footprint, parts availability, payback - in plain English, in writing.

03

Invest with
confidence.

Site visit, finance options if needed, full commissioning, operator training, and a 12-month warranty. We don't disappear after the invoice.

What our customers say

A track record measured in twenty-year machines.
